WOO HOO! THANKS FOR DROPPING BY!
My name is Mikey the Powerful Owlet and I was born in Byles Creek Valley in 2015, the second chick of Powerful Owls Sheba (Mum) and Solomon (Dad). My big brother Stevie was born in 2014, twins Georgie & Porgie in 2016, twins Archie & Abbie in 2017, Bethany in 2018, twins Coco & Cosmo in 2019, Enzo in 2021, twins Flossy & Flynn in 2022 and Gina-Robbie in 2024. Mum and step Dad Pewter II are working on more owlets in 2024!
Byles Creek Valley was named after our iconic local legend Marie Byles. It is around 350 hectares of ecologically significant forest on the Epping, Cheltenham, Beecroft, Pennant Hills border adjoining the Lane Cove National Park, just 25km or about a half-hour drive from Sydney’s CBD. It’s a beautiful place for a cute, little, fluffy Powerful Owlet like me to grow up, but sadly I’m considered a vulnerable species in NSW with my home threatened by development.
I hope you enjoy my tail (oops, I mean tale), which is a bird’s-eye view of the community campaign to save this unique area of bushland where I live. xoxo Mikey
